Paper #1 Topic Proposal Weblog

Blogging with Blogger How-To
1. Never heard of a blog or weblog? Go here and read the brief entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blog
2. Got it? Now visit http://rhe306topicproposalblog.blogspot.com to get a sense of what the group weblog looks like.
3. Open a new browser window or browser tab and go to http://www.blogger.com
4. At the top, right-hand corner of the page, sign in using the following username and password:
username: rhe306student
password: rhetoric
5. You have been directed to the Blogger *Dashboard.* Find the blue link that reads *Condrey*s 306 Topic Proposal Blog* under the *Blogs* list and click on it.
6. On the new page, click the *Create new post* button at the left. This will take you to a form where you*ll create your blog post. Enter into the form a title for your post. Your title should in some way reflect the substance of your proposal. Type your proposal into the large text box. You can also cut and paste from a word document, but you*ll have to click on the *edit html tab* to activate this function. If you decide to paste into the html editor, you may discover that certain punctuation marks get translated into random characters and symbols. This can be corrected later by returning to *compose* mode and retyping the punctuation mark, or by converting all your quotation marks and apostrophes into asterisks* using Microsoft Word's Find-Replace function (control-f on your keyboard). Again, this is only a problem if you're cutting and pasting into the form. Otherwise, you should not have a problem with this.
7. When you*re satisfied, click the orange button that reads *Publish Post.* This should take you to a page that provides you information about the status of the publication process. Once you get the message *Your blog republished successfully,* click on the *View Blog* or *in a new window button* to see the blog entry you created. If it doesn*t appear, try refreshing the page.
8. If you want to edit the content of your post, click on *edit post* under the *Posting* tab. You can also edit your post from the blog main page by clicking on the little pencil at the bottom right of the entry.
Now that you*ve posted your proposal, you*ll need to comment two belonging to your classmates. You can do this by going to the blog (http://rhe306topicproposalblog.blogspot.com) and clicking on the icon that lists the number of comments for the particular entry. You will get a page with an open field that allows you to *Leave Your Comment.* Fill it out with some constructive advice, a question, a suggestion, an objection, or an example they might find useful—anything, really, that you believe might help them clarify their idea. To publish your comment, make sure *Rhetoric 306 Student* is selected under the identities list, then click on the *Login and Publish* button. If you*re asked to re-enter your username and password, please do so. Otherwise, return to the blog to make sure your comment registered. If the blog is busy, this may take a few minutes.
Please try to spread the wealth of feedback. If one person is getting a ton of comments, for whatever reason, please don*t pile on. Try to provide a comment for a poster who hasn*t received one. Don*t engage in personal attacks on your classmates if you can help it. That said, if you*re compelled or provoked to engage in something resembling a personal attacks, please have the consideration to note your actual name in the comment post and thus give that person a chance to respond to you personally and directly. Although I would like everyone to post comments on two blog entries, you may comment as much as you like.
I put this all together is less than a half-hour, so you may encounter mistakes. If you come across a bug in the process I*ve laid out here, please let me know. ¶ 7:38 PM
